DTI Birth and Postpartum Doula

I had a soul filling weekend last month. I began my nine month birth and postpartum doula certification process with Doula Trainings International. I love this organization, and their Compass of Care:

DTI believes in the transformative power and impact that doulas have on all women and families around the world.

DTI Doulas exhibit the following:

They are human rights advocates...

They are committed to eliminating barriers based on race, class, religion, traditions, and sexual orientation...

They practice and are skilled in our Slow Doula Method™...

They are autonomous and support their clients to be autonomous in making their own informed choices...

They are birth and postpartum experts...

They are entrepreneurs...

They are fierce...

They honor community...

They are healers...

They are professional and are seen in high regard from other professionals in their community...

DTI believes that doulas are at the forefront of changing the culture of birth and we’re thrilled to offer a birth and postpartum doula certification program created by doulas for doulas...DTI doulas are taking action to advocate for respectful and dignified care. {See the whole Compass of Care}

Even though I am already a certified birth doula through DONA and Hypnobabies, I was drawn to DTI's approach. I especially loved the idea of doulas supporting doulas. It can be a lonely and taxing job, and with DTI I have a tribe to turn to.

Also, I have always been interested in becoming a Postpartum doula. I will not be offering postpartum services alone, but would like to offer it to birth clients. I want to keep helping parents with their transition into parenthood! So the DTI training that includes birth and postpartum seemed like the right path to take.

I feel so lucky to have met and connected with an incredible group of women, who share a common goal: to help other women on the motherhood journey.
