Welcome, Quinn | Atlanta GA adoption photography

I love documenting families. The word "family" means so many different things to different people, and I think the connections and the dynamics are fascinating. Choosing to be a family, and to add to your family, is a beautifully complicated decision. Choosing to add love and work. Giving a sibling or siblings to your children.

I have always been interested in families. I was adopted into a family who later became a divorced and remarried family, and included lesbian parents. I am always thinking about nurture vs nature, and the definition of family. In college I studied the sociology of families.

I had been photographing families for years when I came across Red Thread Sessions. I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of what they were doing. As a volunteer with the group, I offer discounted photography sessions to families who have recently adopted a child.

There is an ancient Chinese proverb that is commonly-used within the adoption community. It symbolizes the bond that all adoptive children have with their adoptive parents, even before they meet. The proverb states that invisible “red thread” connects them to the people they are destined to meet.

Just as the birth of a child is an incredible transition, full of beautiful moments and forming connections, so is the adoption of a child. I believe that these are moments that can be honored by capturing them with authentic photography!

This session was with a very sweet family who had returned from China with a son two weeks before our session. Their daughter was learning how to be a big sister, and everyone was settling in to their new home. What an honor to be asked to document this amazing step in their journey!
