This week a crazy thing happened. My sweet little baby turned 14 years old. I know technically he was a teenager last year, but this year is somehow different. He's changed a lot over the past year, and the "young adult" part of him has really started to shine.
He is amazing, and our evolving relationship is so much fun.
After the chaos of his birthday party had settled (a 7 teenager sleepover!), we popped outside for his annual birthday portrait. Isn't he adorable??!
That evening after dinner I couldn't help myself--I got the stack of albums out, and we sat on my bed and looked through them. We laughed, I cried, and I just can't imagine not having those albums. I have such a bad memory, and it is a blessing to be able to see each stage of his beautiful life again.
But looking through those albums it is clear that what I don't have is many photos of me with my baby. I'm always the one taking the photos, and in fact my one of my favorites with me in it is actually a self portrait:
Thinking about this reminded me of something brilliant I once read somewhere:
