It is always an honor to be invited to doula a family. Pregnancy, and the birth of a child is an intimate and incredibly vulnerable time, and when parents welcome me to be part of their support team I am beyond flattered.
And then there are repeat clients like this family. I was their birth doula for the birth of their beautiful son two years ago, and again for the birth of their sweet baby girl last month.
After much discussion, this family decided that a home birth made sense for them. It was a beautiful birth, and little Sylvie joined us in the wee hours of April 10th.
I offer birth doula and birth photography services to families in the Atlanta area. I attend births at Atlanta Medical, Dekalb Medical, Emory Midtown and Piedmont, as well as home births intown.
As a doula I meet with clients 1-2 times prenatally to discuss birth preferences, plan for the postpartum period, and get to know each other. I am on call full time starting at 38 weeks, awaiting the call that labor has begun. When it makes sense to us both, I join my clients at home or at the hospital, and stay with them until an hour or two after baby arrives. We also have a postpartum meeting to process the birth, and address any concerns about the birth, breastfeeding, and the postpartum period.
