Loparo Newborn Photos at Home in North Druid Hills
I was recently asked back into this family’s beautiful home in the North Druid Hills neighborhood of Atlanta to welcome their newest member, baby Carmy. For Carmy’s newborn session, we waited until he was around 3 months old to give the family time to settle in as a family of 5. Three months is such a fun age, when babies are still new, but they also start to have super cute facial expressions! Carmy’s older siblings were a little shy at first, but after spending some time focused on them, and they realized there was zero pressure from me to perform, they warmed right up.
9-Year-Old, sprawled on the nursery floor: “I thought this was going to be…different.”
Mom: “What do you mean?”
9-Year-Old: “I don’t know…er..taking pictures”
Mom: “That’s why we hire Chanda, so nobody cries.”

It feels so special to photograph a family in their own space—especially when it’s as warm and thoughtfully decorated as this one. I adore the way they decorated the nursery for Carmy. Simple and classic with a twist of fun in the perfect color green—and oh, my, the light in that room was amazing. Everything about this session felt slow, calm, and full of love.
As with all family sessions, and especially newborn sessions, we let it unfold organically. We took some nice family portraits, and then just hung out while I took photos. I documented the snuggles, diaper changes, and playing with their cat Waffle—who insisted on being in every room with us and photo bombing most of the pictures! It was a nice, chill summer morning, capturing the little moments that make their family who they are in this moment.
That’s the beauty of documentary family photography and of photo sessions at home. Everyone is comfortable in the space, without the stress of needing to look a certain way or get everyone ready and out the door with a newborn baby. There is no pressure, and no need to rush.
I’m so grateful to the Loparos for welcoming me into their home again to photograph this very sweet time in their lives.
